How can you get paid to do what you love?

It's a tough question, but I've found at least a few of the answers. I do make a living at what I do, which is spiritually based, but it took a long time. First, I gave a lot away. A lot! Both of my novels are online for free (www.BeWhoYouAre.com), and the books are sold in three languages and distributed in nine countries. That's taken nearly six years, but it works. People find my workshops, and I have a list of clients that I mentor becaue the books show who I am, how I think and operate, and that resonates with others. That leads to another piece...I didn't think I wanted to mentor anyone. I wanted to write, and stay tucked away. The Universe had other plans! Now, I love it. I had imagined something like old-school therapy, in which people come but never really heal, or traditional "coaching," in which I'm holding people accountable for doing things they are not ready to do. Not so! What I do is discover who a person is, and show them that beauty in a way they know, but can't feel. Together, we find out what is real, ask what needs attention, and what can be let go of, and WOW, they move lightning fast! I love watching this. So I'm glad my path forced me into doing something I thought I would not like--supposedly to make a living--but in the end, to make a beautiful life! I also have created exposure through my meditation movie at www.meditationmovie.com. It is free, too. It shows my truth in 9 minutes. So far, I've had tens of thousands of viewers... such a simple concept. Now, I have to say when I gave things away, I held NO resentment about it. I think that is the trick. I FELT my delight in connection, without a price. I also felt joy in "being the change." And those feelings attracted the right people to purchase what I do sell. It's taken quite some time, but today it works. And I'm aware that could change at any time. I'm in flow with that as needed. I hope that helps! Robin

That is a hard one - I now do get paid for what I love to do, but the road there wasn’t easy…I used to be in “big business” and it’s amazing how easy it is to get complacent when the material side is well taken care of. Thinking back it took me probably the better part of 20 years to finally figure out that that constant feeling of unease, knowing “this isn’t it”, wasn’t normal and that I could change that. When I finally did it caused huge disruption on personal and financial levels but once started it was impossible to stop. Now, my clients pay me what they think is fair and over 4 years I’ve only not been paid twice - which doesn’t matter at all. I don’t consider what i do a job, it’s become a lifestyle and I find as such I have an impact on people that goes beyond anything I ever did before.

Robin,

It is interesting to read your story.  My husband and I built an interesting, niche business that gives us much satisfaction, with all the thrills and chills that go with the risks involved.  At times it overwhelms me but I keep plugging because I am glad we have meaningful work.

My love is spirituality.  I give it away.  Don't yet see how it can be otherwise given other factors in my life but I keep an open mind.  I too was surprised when I found myself mentoring through Gaia.  I will explore your creative work.  Also, I think you should get acquainted with C G Walters here at Gaia.  He wrote Sacred Vow, which I did purchase and enjoyed alot.

I am happy to have made your acquaintance.

You know, I LOVED your story as well, on your page.  What a beautiful life you are living.  How perfect that you can mentor though Gaia… how are you doing that?  Hugs, Robin

It's a delight reading your success story.  Am growing my own value based business, slowly. It's just been over a year.  Am quite happy that I am able to meet and help different people through it and also somehow support my family.  I met my customers online and it has been a wonderful experience knowing and growing with such beautiful persons.  Next week I'll be meeting my American buyer who is visiting Kathmandu with her fiance.
